Making Movies!

In an attempt to give your children some fun and creative ways to spend the summer, I decided to teach them an easy way to make movies. We made a couple of short films in class today and I have posted them on YouTube for them to enjoy. Hopefully during the hot summer days, the students may feel inspired to try their directing skills and make their own short films. Please email me to show of their talents. I'd love to hear how things are going this summer. mstocking@hrz.washk12.org

Here is a link to find the video's that we made.

Science Slideshow's!

To review for the year end Science exams, our class created science PowerPoints and presented them to the rest of the 4th grade. To view them, visit the link at the end of this post. Some of them are somewhat large, because of the pictures that the students selected. They did most of the work. I had a conference with each student to fine tune their slides and then I compiled the slides into topics. I was very impressed with what they could do and how they presented the slides to other classes. Go check them out!

Utips Testing

I have some online math tests available for students to take at home. If you are not familiar with Utips testing, it is an easy way for students to practice math skills and I can see their results. It is easy to do and there is a simple login for each test. To get started, click over to, UTIPS and select a test in the Math folder. Select "Simple Login" and you are ready to go!

I will have Reading and Science tests up soon. It's almost as fun as playing with Wii Music! Almost. If you have questions on how to log into the tests or general questions about the process, please email or call me at the usual contact info. If the link doesn't work, copy and paste this address:

Vocabulary Hats

For vocabulary one week the students were learning dictionary skills. Our assessment for the week was a hat that demonstrated the definition of one of the words from our year's vocabulary list. There were some fantastic creations.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Apples galore! To recognize Johnny Appleseed in September, we had an apple day in the fourth grade. Students brought in apples for bobbing, apple sauce and a math activity. The applesauce was delicious, bobbing was sloppy, and we all did our part to keep the doctor away.
